As a physical and vocal chameleon Marilla Wex is hard to pigeon-hole.
She has played roles as diverse as the shrinking violet Charlotte Lucas in Pride and Prejudice, recovering Brummie alcoholic Jane in The Good Times Are Killing Me and council house clairvoyant Mother Cheapside in The Sad and Cautionary Tale of SmackHeaded Peter. She is as comfortable playing a middle-American mom as she is playing a Victorian hooker.
She is wigged so often for period roles that she takes pictures to auditions so that casting directors can see beyond the shorn look she sports in “real life”. Here are a bunch of headshots and photos of character roles for your delectation.
