Back in the studio…

Back in the studio…

It’s been a couple of years since I recorded a radio commercial. It felt good to be back in the studio. I love working at Pirate Radio. It was there that I recorded the Philips Body Groom series that swept the board at the Crystal Awards. Those commercials were brilliantly written – a series of descriptions of home improvements that stood in for reasons why manscaping can make your johnson look bigger. All in a chirpy, Mary Poppins voice. We laughed our asses off in the studio. I...

Jim Meskimen is my new hero…

As an actress who has made a substantial portion of her wages doing voice work (especially accents of the British Isles) I love it when I see real talent in this field. I happened to see this video by chance – a friend had posted it on Facebook – and I was blown away. Watch how Jim Meskimen performs Clarence’s speech from Richard III as a bunch of actors, politicians and tv personalities. He is...

Watch Ninjamaica online!

The pilot for the cartoon series Ninjamaica I voiced is available to watch online! You can watch the entire pilot for Ninjamaica here. Then go to the voting page and click on the word “vote” next to Ninjamaica (which is first in the pilot list). Tip – you can vote more than once by refreshing the page! You can also write a nice comment (if you liked it – if you didn’t it would be great if you kept that to yourself). Simply click on the drop down list under...

Living the Dream

When it’s going well, being a professional performer is the most fabulous job ever. I am having the best time (see the cheesy grin, left). It all happened so fast. I hadn’t had a job in six months and suddenly I landed a theatre job with Summerworks out of the blue. Just after rehearsals began I had a tv audition for “Bloodletting and Miraculous Cures” which I nailed (thanks to casting director Deirdre Bowen’s stellar direction) and got the part. So now I’m...

Ninjamaica Update

Posted by on Apr 21, 2009 in Blog, Cartoon, Voice Over | 9 comments

A couple of weeks ago I sat down with almost the entire cast of Ninjamaica to see the finished pilot at the offices of Lenz Entertainment. We were all completely blown away. And it takes a lot to impress comedians. We loved it so much we all stayed to watch it again when Kevin Herod, who plays Ninjamaica, arrived late. Kenny Robinson, who was unable to make the screening because of a previous gig commitment at the army base in Trenton, was fantastic as the bad guy – it looked like the...

I voiced a cartoon Japanese pop star

Posted by on Jul 17, 2008 in Blog, Cartoon, Voice Over | 0 comments

Today I did my cartoon gig – it was amazing! What a hoot – my main character, as I discussed yesterday, is the British manager of a Jamaican band who may or may not be some kind of secret agent. I also played a German tourist having sex with a Jamaican guy, and a Japanese pop singer who’s most definitely also a secret agent and is trying to kill the main character. This was perhaps the most fun part since it involved me having to record a bunch of fighting noises that I...

My first cartoon voice over

Posted by on Jul 16, 2008 in Blog, Cartoon, Voice Over | 0 comments

Tomorrow I’m voicing my first cartoon. I’m preposterously excited. This is a field I’ve been wanting to get into for a long time and since my unique selling proposition in Canada is that I’m British (and am able to do the accent without sounding like Dick van Dyke) I’ve been hoping that Toronto would be good to me. It’s taken a couple of years, but finally I was able to audition for a pilot for an adult (yes – it’s aimed at 18 to 34s) cartoon for...
