On Thursday night the Stand Up Sisters did a gig for Gilda’s Club members.
Laughter for Life week celebrated Gilda Radner’s birthday and included various events for members, their friends and families, and donors.
For this stand-up event I was the MC, and fellow Stand Up Sisters Becky Bays, Leanne Mladen, Muniza Rauf, Heidi Mole and Laura Salvas got up and did their thing. Dawn Whitwell, our teacher and top chum, was the headliner.
This is the first time I’ve MCd an event for eighteen months, and I’d forgotten just how much I missed it. I did ten minutes off the top, then the girls followed suit – Dawn doing twenty as the headliner.
It was great to hear everyone’s material – I’m so proud of us as a team and love having girlfriends working at the same thing together. There’s a real sense of cameraderie.
Thanks to Athanas Njeru for asking us all back to entertain the members. We’ve never been treated so well! Hotdogs, beer, pop, coffee and water in the green room and a really warm reception. Can’t wait for the next Gilda’s club gig!
