I got back from a trip home to Blighty last week – my husband was appearing at Jewish Book week in London – having finally seen “The Good Times Are Killing Me“.
The timing was extraordinary – last year Cris Cole, the writer (pictured left), said that any time I was in London I should let him know and we could have dinner. I took him at his word and emailed him a couple of months ago to tell him we would be in town. It just turned out that Cris got hold of a copy of the (almost) final edit the week we were in London, so invited Rupert Graves (below) over and with my husband and Cris’ wife Christine, we all had a fabulous meal together and watched the movie.

We were pleasantly surprised. The action is fast-paced and not all of my favourite bits were cut out (although I do miss the Sugar Puffs scene with me and Ali Craig) – I come out rather well in it and was, as we say in England, quite chuffed. Although I have to admit that Rupert and I were three sheets to the wind by the time we got to the movie – Cris and his wife were very generous with the wine and we didn’t leave their place until 2am. A fabulous evening!
My hair and costumes are just as terrifically horrid as I remembered and I’m very pleased that I eshewed the Spanx and let my muffin-top hang over my spray-on jeans in all its glory. It really works for the part.
I spoke to Kelly Rowan via email to congratulate her on a fine job – she is really great in the film. I learned a lot from watching her and Rupert and really hope that this is not the last time I’m in a movie. Kelly was very complimentary about my performance, which again, I was pretty chuffed about.
The consensus seems to be that CTV will be screening the film sometime in the spring – the version I saw at Cris’ was the international one – whether they will sell it abroad remains to be seen, but there is a chance that my family and friends in England will still get to see it someday!

Oh, this is so exciting! Yay! I’m glad to hear that the final cut is so good! I’m really looking forward to seeing it.
I know – exciting, eh? It’s really good. I’m very pleased.
That’s good to hear. As a viewer, it’s always good to hear an actor or actress say they are pleased with their work. Makes me feel good about the movie before I see it. Plus, it sounds like you got to work with some really amazing people! Congratulations for that alone. It can be hard to find good co-workers today.
