Last night at Hugh’s Room our StandUp For Your Sisters charity gig for Gilda’s Club raised $7,000! I couldn’t be more happy or proud.
The turn-out was amazing – we totally sold out and there was standing room only. The audience was incredibly warm and supportive, and the energy in the room was electric. Elvira Kurt, our fabulous MC, was pretty much solely responsible for keeping them going on what turned out to be a long, but hugely enjoyable evening.
I had to wait until the middle of the second half to get on stage and I couldn’t wait. My five minute set went probably the best it’s ever gone. And I was chuffed to bits that my husband got to see it.
Dawn Whitwell, our stand-up teacher, was the headliner and was hilarious – very warm, funny and laid-back. I’m embarrassed to say it was the first time I’ve seen her perform, but I’m delighted to say she was even better than I was expecting.
All in all it was a wonderful, magical night. Gilda’s Club have asked us to make it an annual event! Which by me makes it a hit.

Marilla who?
I am a British-born actress and stand-up comic who does lots of voice work (for commercials, cartoons and corporate clients) and sometimes, when I'm very lucky, tv and film. When I was in England I did mostly theatre. Now I'm in Canada I spend the majority of the time writing and performing stand-up. When I'm not making episodes of Talking Bollocks, that is. And that's me for you.
Don’t mean to be a bother but do you know when ‘The Good Times are Killing Me’ is going to be released? The plot sounds so good!
I’m not sure – CTV are just finishing editing it. I’m hopefully having dinner with the writer, Cris Cole, next Friday when I’m in London. He may have a copy for us to watch by then. We’re also hoping to hook up with Rupert Graves and Ali Craig, who also appeared in the movie, for a screening. Watch this space!
