Tomorrow I’m voicing my first cartoon. I’m preposterously excited. This is a field I’ve been wanting to get into for a long time and since my unique selling proposition in Canada is that I’m British (and am able to do the accent without sounding like Dick van Dyke) I’ve been hoping that Toronto would be good to me.
It’s taken a couple of years, but finally I was able to audition for a pilot for an adult (yes – it’s aimed at 18 to 34s) cartoon for the Teletoon network. Entitled Ninjamaica it’s one of only ten pilots being made following the 200 submissions considered as part of The Detour on Teletoon Pilot Project.
Here is how the show is described:
With a cutting edge graphic look and a creative team made up of hot new comedians and musicians, Ninjamaica melds animated action adventure with biting comedy and a bumping musical soundtrack. An amnesiac Rasta with extraordinary fighting powers and an insatiable appetite sets out to rebuild his memory and reclaim his life, all while dodging bullets from his many enemies and possibly making time for a Twinkie.
I’m playing the part of Kay Cockburn, described as “a smoking hot British girl in her twenties, a blonde with a hip flare”, who is the manager of the lead character’s band. She may or may not also be a secret agent…..the script is pretty funny and it would be my dream to be a regular in a cartoon.
I’ll let you know how it goes…
